Munich, Germany - October 16, 2023: NavVis, an innovator in reality capture and digital factory solutions, and Siemens Smart Infrastructure have collaborated to integrate accurate as-is 3D data and an immersive 3D experience to Siemens’ latest scalable digital building platform Building X™.
Launched in June 2022, Building X enables customers to digitalize, manage, and optimize building operations, allowing for enhanced user experience, increased performance, and improved sustainability. Its applications cover use cases such as energy management, security, building operations, maintenance, and more. Building X addresses the challenges of various stakeholders involved in the building lifecycle, including tenants, investors, real estate companies, and facility managers. It acts as a “single source of truth” to reduce complexity and enhance building performance while supporting net-zero targets. Stakeholders can now consolidate and digitize their building data from various field sources, disciplines, and systems in one single platform.
Building X is built on the Siemens Xcelerator design principles and customers can use it as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) application, on a subscription basis, or opt for an end-to-end offering of Building Services, which will be enabled by Building X. The platform is a modular, fully cloud-based open platform, with AI-enabled applications, strong connectivity, and built-in cybersecurity.
The 360° Viewer application of Siemens Building X, which is powered by NavVis IVION, combines a photorealistic view of the building with insightful live sensor data. “Having NavVis as a partner and benefiting from their unique mobile mapping and laser scanning as part of Building X allows us to reimagine work and drive value,” notes Rahul Chillar, Senior Vice President of Digital Buildings at Siemens Smart Infrastructure, Building Products.
NavVis IVION is a powerful spatial digital twin platform for owners, operators, and contractors. Distributed teams can better understand, collaborate, and make the right decisions based on reliable site data and conditions. It empowers key stakeholders to walk through virtual scenes, explore best practice scenarios, access point clouds, and facilitate global collaboration as well as scan-to-BIM workflows. This allows stakeholders to make data-driven decisions with confidence, using reliable and detailed visualizations of their assets.
The accurate, as-is 3D data for the 360° Viewer application (powered by NavVis IVION) is best captured via the NavVis global scanning service. This scanning service relies on NavVis mobile mapping systems, which use LiDAR (Laser Imaging, Detection, and Ranging) to generate high-definition point cloud data while also capturing 360 panoramic images. In particular, the NavVis VLX wearable mapping system enables unprecedented speed and accurate data capture. It delivers high-quality data even in the most complex environments, such as construction sites, staircases, and technical rooms.
“We are excited to enable the Siemens Building X open platform with NavVis technology. We firmly believe that accurate as-is 3D data at scale and immersive interaction with this data is critically important to make the vision of smart buildings a reality,” says Dr. Felix Reinshagen, CEO and Co-Founder at NavVis.
